Casey O'Brien, of St Paul, MN, (his mom, 'Mrs. O'Brien,' teaches at Nativity) is a five-time cancer survivor (six-time survivor as of April 29th!) and widely recognized motivational speaker. After being diagnosed at the age of 13 with Osteosarcoma - an extremely rare form of bone cancer - his main goal in life has become to inspire others.
After cancer relapse in both lungs during high school, Casey made his varsity football debut as a placeholder - then checked in for chemotherapy the following morning. He later walked-on as a placeholder for Coach PJ Fleck at the University of Minnesota and the Golden Gophers.
Casey played in his first BIG10 football game at Rutgers on 10/19/19. The play, and emotional moment shared with Coach Fleck, was covered by ESPN, ABC World News, and The Today Show among other media outlets. Casey spoke to a national audience at the 2019 ESPN College Football Awards Show after receiving the Disney Spirit Award for 'Most Inspiring Story in College Football.' He was the keynote speaker at the 2019 BIG10 Media Days in Chicago, and his speech has been viewed more than 100,000 times.
Casey O’Brien is determined to spread his positivity, unbelievable resiliency, and motivation to succeed to every group he speaks to; and the Nativity Men's Club is honored to sponsor his visit:
